Prostate Cancer Awareness

The prostate is a gland in the male reproductive system that produces part of seminal fluid. When stimulated with prostate toys, it can lead to strong orgasms that are often described as more pleasurable than typical penile ones. While prostate play can be fun, there is also a serious side to this part of the male anatomy.

Prostate cancer is a condition that affects many men, and with September being National Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, CalExotics aims to do our part in helping spread awareness.

What is Prostate Cancer?

One of the most common cancers for men, prostate cancer happens when cells in the prostate grow out of control. Most often, prostate cancer will grow slowly over time, but sometimes it will develop rapidly. It has the best chance of being treated during the early stages when it hasn’t spread outside of the prostate yet, so it’s important to keep an eye out for early signs of prostate cancer.

Signs of Prostate Cancer

Most cases of prostate cancer are found in the early stages thanks to cancer screenings. These tests will look for signs of cancers before symptoms appear. A screening won’t confirm if a person has cancer, but if the results are abnormal, a biopsy can be used to know if cancer is present. Screenings should be done based on risk factors such as age and a family history of prostate cancer.

Signs of prostate cancer can appear when the cancer is more advanced. These symptoms include difficulty urinating, blood in the urine or semen, pain while ejaculating and pain in the back, hip or pelvis. If you display any of these symptoms, you should go to a doctor — but don’t panic. The symptoms can also be caused by a variety of things that aren’t prostate cancer.

Lowering Your Risk of Prostate Cancer

Unfortunately, there isn’t a known way to prevent prostate cancer as certain risk factors like age and family medical history can’t be changed or controlled. However, there are steps you can take that might help reduce your risk of getting prostate cancer. You might be able to lower your risk if you maintain a healthy weight, exercise regularly and keep a healthy diet full of fruits, vegetables and whole grains. If you are in a higher risk group, consider consulting with your doctor about possible vitamins or medicines to help lower your risk.
